Transcendence

This painting of Juney Whank Falls was inspired by a recent vacation hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Being in the mountains among nature's vastness made all of the everyday stresses of life seem small and insignificant, and I wanted to capture that feeling with this composition. The underpainting was set with an alcohol wash on an old Wallis Belgian Mist board and subsequent layers of soft pastel were built upon this base layer.
